Nolan Passing Through

We are having lots of fun with Nolan this summer!

Nolan's First Swim

We were lucky enough to get to go down to Arizona to visit Jen's family this past weekend. Of course in the Arizona summer we wanted to go swimming, so we took Nolan for his first swim! It was lots of fun and Grandma was able to film it (below). He was so excited and loved it!

Nolan in his crib

I posted this video on facebook a few days ago. I have been staying at home with Nolan ever since school has been out, and I must say that he is much more interesting than my 8th graders. :-) Being a stay-at-home dad again is much different than it was three months ago. This age (6 mo.) is so much fun! Can't wait for him to start crawling... he is almost there!

 

The Pez Dispenser That Came To Life

Here is the final product! For my authentic writing project, we were instructed to create anything that we wanted that had to do with writing. So, I wrote a story about a Pez dispenser that started blinking and exploring. The original story was pretty boring, so I thought that stop motion animation would really spice it up. And about a week of frustration with Windows Movie Maker (it froze up on me about a million times) and many, many hours of editing later, I am very pleased with the result.

Hopefully I can use stop motion animation in my classroom when I get hired as a teacher. It is a lot of fun and I know a handful of kids already that would be interested. Maybe I can use it to teach them the procedures of the class and demonstrate to them what I expect of them. I was also thinking about turning it into a picture book. The possibilities are endless!!!!!

Here is a video clip I shot this past weekend in Arizona. We walked around the awesome Desert Botanical Garden and discovered these clever ground squirrels feasting on the tasty morsels. I guess the cacti aren't worth the effort to eat. Go figure.

Videoblog: Flame Blows Itself Out

No, I'm not a pyro... I just enjoy playing with fire.

I did this back in college, probably procrastinating on a paper or something. I know that it is long and boring, but the really cool flame stuff happens if you skip to 2:30 min left in the video.

What is it? I took a glass container candle and stuck about 2 dozen matches straight up inside. I wanted to create a big flame, so this worked well. As the flame burns, it begins running out of oxygen inside the glass container. It gasps its last breaths until the flame finally goes out.
